The Come Up

You're minding your own business, just got off work, opened the door to home and the cell phone starts buzzing. You're thinking "good grief, who is this already?" "Can't barely even get in the door!".

You put your purse down, take off your coat and flop down on the couch. The text message is from outer space, meaning; you have not heard from this joker in months or maybe even a year and now all of a sudden:

"Hey, how are you?"

You: "I'm good thanks, but who is this?" (He's somehow shocked that you have deleted his number)

"This is Evan. What? You forgot about me already? Lol!"

You: "Oh hi Evan, what's going on?"

"Not much, I was just thinking about you, thought I'd call and see what's up wit ya. So you married yet?"

You: "Evan, quit playing, don't nobody have time for the smooth antics" what do you want, better yet, what are you up to?

"I'm not playing. Seriously, you have been on my mind, and honestly, I have been thinking about us a lot. I let the right one get away".

DEAD SILENCE!

AWKWARRRRRD!

"So what you been doing?" How's the fam?"

You: "not much, same ole, working, church and trying to fit in some exercise."

"Oh ok! Well maybe I can do some of that with you. We can meet up and run a few times a week. You down with that?"

NOW HERE'S WHERE YOU CAN DO ONE OF 3 THINGS:

Tell him you will call him right back and then don't. Now that you have his number, when he shoots his best shot again, you can screen his call.

Be honest and tell him it's not a good idea and you decline.

Give in and make a date, and if you do this, well..... he just succeeded at coming up and you were an easy climb! We sometimes give into this craziness and then later we are mad at him and ourselves, but like they say, "don't hate the playa, hate the game." He's just doing what they do!
