Extensive manhunt continues for Lowell homicide suspect

LOWELL -- Residents of the Highlands area are asked to shelter in place as police search for an "armed and extremely dangerous" man suspected of a Thursday morning homicide.

Police and SWAT teams are combing streets in the area with assistance from a state police Airwing unit, according to police scanner broadcasts. Local parks have been cleared, and on Twitter, Lowell police advised everyone to remain indoors.

The suspect was named as Ross Elliott, a 5-foot-10-inch man with a tattoo on the right side of his neck. Police said he is wearing blue jeans, a blue zip-up hooded sweatshirt and black and white sneakers. Police believe he is armed with a silver handgun and is dangerous.

Elliott allegedly killed a woman in a Stevens Street apartment Thursday morning. It was callled domestic in nature.
