Barack Obama's First Public Speech Since Leaving Office

Former President Barack Obama used his first public appearance since leaving office to dole out advice to young people on leadership, managing social media and even marriage. What he didn’t do was mention his successor.

The University of Chicago hosted the event, billed by Obama's office as a "conversation on community organizing and civic engagement." The highly anticipated public appearance happened just days ahead of the symbolically significant 100-day mark for Trump -- a milestone that one Obama adviser insisted is "far from" the former president's mind.

“What’s been going on while I’ve been gone?” joked Obama as he took the stage for a forum with Chicago students and young professionals to discuss ways to improve civic engagement.
