Phenix City students lay wreath at Arlington National Cemetery

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -A group of students from Phenix City's Sherwood Elementary School was given the chance the visit Arlington Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

The 5th graders participated in laying a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The Tomb of the Unknown soldier is the burial site of an unidentified American soldier from World War I. The tomb stands atop a hill that overlooks Washington, DC. Congress approved the burial of the soldier March 4, 1921.

In honor of those who have served the nation. Arlington National Cemetery provides a sense beauty and peace. The cemetery conducts between 27 and 30 funerals each week and between 6-8- services on Saturday.
