Daily Show Correspondent Will Take Over Nightly Show Time Slot

One of the great things about The Daily Show, besides the killer writing and on-the-nose political commentary that it’s provided over the years, is the fact that it acts as an incubator for some really talented comedians. Stephen Colbert, Al Madrigal, Rob Corddry, Samantha Bee, Jessica Williams — these are just a few of the faces that started off as Daily Show correspondents, only to go on to host their own shows or star in projects on both the big and small screens. Now, another veteran correspondent is set to make the leap into the spotlight: Jordan Klepper. Comedy Central announced this week that Klepper has been tapped to host his own late-night talk show that will immediately follow The Daily Show.

Klepper, an alumni of both The Second City and Upright Citizens Brigade, joined the show back in 2014, and in that time has generated some quality bits both in the field and in-studio. Whether he’s out talking to supporters at Trump rallies, going on police ride-alongs, or interviewing politicians, Klepper has proven time and time again that he can provide the laughs and the facts, something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by Comedy Central.

“Jordan’s talent has become so increasingly obvious it would take a real fool to not offer him this opportunity,” said Comedy Central President Kent Alterman.

Klepper, for his part, is equal parts stoked and unnerved by the move. “The choice to entrust me with the 11:30 p.m. timeslot is both incredibly humbling and deeply disturbing,” said Klepper of the news. “Without a doubt, it has utterly destroyed my confidence in Comedy Central’s decision making acumen. Dear God, now I have to work with these fools.”

The show, still unnamed and in the very early stages of development, will be produced by Klepper, The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah, and former Jon Stewart-era Daily Show producer Stuart Miller. The show, scheduled to premiere this fall, will air Monday though Thursday at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT, coming right after The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
